Some Days You Just Don't Feel Like Smiling....

This Saturday I had a family session scheduled with one of my clients. She wanted photos of her daughter with her two adorable little nephews.

The day started out with questionable weather, location changes to avoid mud and slush and some very uninterested little boys.

We were doing eveything we could to get the boys to smile. I did manage to get a several shots with smiling faces, but poor Mr. B was not having as much fun as his big brother and his sweet cousin.

Let's face it.....There are some days that we just don't feel like smiling!

Sidewalk Chalk and Jesus

This Saturday we saw some beautiful Spring weather and we were eager to get outside and soak up some sun and burn off some energy. We spent time jumping on the trampoline, flying a new kite my  son got for Easter and drawing with his new sidewalk chalk.

We had decided to draw a Welcome Home picture for daddy to see when he got home for work later in the day so we set to picking out colors and making our sign. After we had finished, my little guy set to drawing his own picture. He refused to tell me what he was drawing, but promised I was going to love his artwork.

He was working so diligently and when he finished he stood up and with pride in his voice he said to me "Look Momma! I made the Earth, Jesus and The Holy Temple. I also made a heart around them to show love."

I was speechless! I told him that I LOVED his drawing and that I'm sure he made Jesus smile. He gave me a big smile and said "I guess I am just in an attitude of Jesus today."
My heart was overflowing with pride! And with that I wrapped my arms around this little boy who suddenly seemed wise beyond his years.

I held him in a tight hug as the tears streamed down my face. I then prayed over him outloud saying "Jesus, Thank You! Thank You! Thank You for blessing us with this little boy who loves you so much!"

I often question if my son truly understands how much Jesus gave of himself so that we could be saved.  I wonder if he understands how much we are loved by our Heavenly Father. I had actually been pondering those questions earlier in the day, but in that moment I felt that doubt melt away and all was confirmed.

Sometimes the Lord speaks to you in the most unexpected ways. On Saturday, I heard his voice and it came to me through sidewalk chalk and a little boy with a heart for Jesus! Thank you Lord! I got the message. :)

Faith~Family~Farm Land

In my family, my Grandfather and my Uncle are farmers and ranchers who for many years have worked side by side. I have many fond memories of taking lunch to my Grandpa on the farm and getting to stay to ride in the combine with him.

During harvest my dad would usually take a few weeks off of work to help get the work done and there were even some afternoons that we would head to the farm and help pick a few rows of corn by hand. We usually would pick enough to have a few bags for each of us and some for other family members and some for the neighbors. One of my favorite summer chores was sitting on the back porch shucking bags full of corn. I still love doing that!

I remember one summer my Grandma decided that my little sister and I would go and pick out a kitten to surprise my Grandpa with at the farm to help catch the barn mice. We went to the house of a little girl in my Sunday school class who had the kittens to give away. We left her house with not one, but three kittens (one for each of us.) I still remember the smile on Grandpa's face when we took the kittens to him and the loud laugh he released as Grandma pulled the kittens out one by one.

That is just a few of many memories I have of the fun I had with my siblings and my cousins growing up playing on the farm and on the ranch. I am so grateful that I got to grow up with God's beauty as my backdrop.

The other day I snuck away to take some nature photos on a day that was just breathtakingly beautiful. We live surrounded by farm land so I do not have to go far to take in the beauty of landscapes that are so dear to my heart.

I got in my car with my camera in hand and headed to the edge of town down some back country roads taking photos from my car as things caught my attention. As I drove around I had a specific image in my mind that I wanted to create.

Growing up I was witness to how hard farmers and ranchers worked. I saw the struggles. I felt the callused hands when I took my Grandpa's hand in mine. I remember hearing my Grandparents worrying when times were tough or when the weather turned for the worse and the storms threatened the crops. When the storms hit, my Grandpa would always dig a little deeper and pray even harder.

My Grandpa and my Uncle's love for the land, family and the Lord are the most admirable qualities about them in my eyes.

Faith~Family~Farm Land.....that is what was on my heart as I shot the image below.

I call it "Farmers Prayer".....Lord, bless the land You've given me, And may I always know
As I tend each crop and creature You're the One who helps them grow.

Listening for His Voice

As we are in full swing on this beautiful Friday morning, our home is busy with the noise of two little boys playing in the toy room, the soft mechanical sounds of a baby swing rocking a sleeping baby off to dream land and the snoring of our sweet little multipoo.

To me these sounds are the blissful sounds of home. They remind me that I am right where I love to be. What sounds do you think of when you think of your home?

Do you think of the pitter patter of little feet, the laughter of your family or maybe the sound of bacon sizzling in a frying pan?

I often will put on the radio to a local Christian radio station to help bring joyful and meaningful sounds to our home. It is always amazing to me how quickly the sound of Praise music lifts everyone's spirits.

I love those moments of praise and celebration as much I love my quiet moments with the Lord. I find that my quiet moments with Him allow me to hear Him more that any other time in my day.

I am someone who needs my moments of quiet time and solitude with Him. I need that time to just sit and listen to hear His voice speak to me and give me encouragement, guidance and reassurance. It is a vital part of my day.

How do you best hear His voice?

John 10:27-28
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
